Airport Transfers and Taxi service to and from Leuven

Get a transfer to Leuven, one of Belgium’s historical towns

Leuven [1] is a highly dynamic and much-frequented city of about 95,000 inhabitants in Flemish Brabant, Belgium. It's a real university town which is more vivid during the scholastic year (end of September till June), although there are a lot of touristic events in summer. The university, with its 35,000 students every year, is a Catholic University of longest standing all over the world, founded in 1425. The towncentre is one of the most beautiful spots in the country.

It is also the ideal point of departure to discover the rest of the country: Brussels is just in the vicinity, the seaside is only 90 minutes by train, and Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Liege, Mechelen and Hasselt are also within easy reach.

Recently, more and more visitors come to Leuven because the city has redoubled its efforts to make sightseers feel at home.

Anyone can find that the average age of inhabiting people drastically changes during term, when it is often the case that almost only students stroll around the city. However, Leuven has the attractive force to appeal to itself both young and old: a vivid nightlife, fascinating and sometimes scrumptious historic sites, the significant and world-famed University and two seemingly unending shopping streets.

Leuven has a long and eventful history, being founded around the 9th century. The location gave it a particular importance, since it is situated along the river Dijle and close to Brussels. Most part of the city had been destroyed to the ground by the German invasion in World War I, and was again damaged during World War II. However the historic centre itself has remained in quite a good condition and historic buildings like the University Library have been restored, partly by the help of foreign relief funds.

Leuven is eastward to Brussels (20 kms). This town is the capital of the Province of Flemish Brabant in Belgium. Consequently it houses a lot of administrative offices including the province council’s office called Province Building. Its main economical sectors are technology (due to the University) and brewing. Famous companies have their central office in Leuven, such as InBev and Imec.

Leuven has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Groot Begijnhof (Grand Beguinage) forms a part of the Flemish Beguinages. The Belfry on St Peter's Church is a part of the Belfries of Belgium and France. The University’s edifices and the Historic Centre are also potential places to become World Heritage sites in their own right.
