Split Airport (SPU)
This airport, also known as Resnik Airport (Zračna luka Resnik), is the international airport serving the city of Split, Croatia. It is located at 19 kilometers from Split, on the west side of Kaštela Bay, in the town of Kaštela, and extending into the adjacent town of Trogir. In 2018 the airport was the second busiest in Croatia after Zagreb Airport handling around 3.12 million passengers. It is a major destination for leisure flights during the European summer holiday season and an important focus city for Croatia Airlines that offers flights to European cities such as Frankfurt, London and Paris.
Airport Terminals and Airlines
Split Airport, the second biggest by passenger numbers in Croatia, opened its new terminal recently. Split has been operating above its passenger capacity for several years now, because of the painfully slow Croatian legal system and a surge in passenger demand for this coastal Croatian city. However, being an amazing tourist destination in the past years, larger, refurbished and modern capacities were needed.
The Spit Airport has a huge number of airlines which offer mainly seasonal flights (to and from) large European cities. In terms of regular airlines, only a few offer regular flights, such as Croatia Airlines, Eurowings, SAS and Trade Air. Since June 2019, Ryanair is flying to Split from Dublin, and it pays the same price as everyone else.
Airport Services and Facilities
The Split Airport has a modern and large terminal which offers everything you may need during your travel. A sizable Duty-Free shop is available at the premises, offering perfumes and cosmetics, fine spirits and tobacco products, chocolates and some treats, including local products. And for the curious observers, there’s a closed view point located at the first floor, where you can sit back and relax while watching the planes land and take off.
