Melbourne Airport's 5 per cent growth and many plans for the future

melbourne airportInternational and domestic passenger numbers at Melbourne Airport increased by 5 per cent in 2012, said Melbourne Airport CEO, Mr Chris Woodruff.

“Throughout the year, we experienced significant increases on domestic routes. We foresee a further increase in the domestic flights capacity." said Mr Woodruff.

The number of international passenger growth increased by 6 per cent compared to 2011. New Zealand, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, India and Sri Lanka are the countries with the strongest growth.

Melbourne Airport still depends mostly on domestic flights. Domestic flights carried alltogether 22.3 million passengers to and from Melbourne Airport, a 5 per cent increase compared to 2011.

In December the airport reported a 5 per cent increase of international and 8 per cent increase of domestic passenger numbers, compared to same period last year.

Melbourne Airport completed several key infrastructure projects in 2012 to support the continous growth. The airport's CEO foresees a brightful future and plans further road and facility improvements.

A Master Plan, will be published later this year, will set out the future developments for the next 15-20 years, including ground transport improvements.
