Lleida Airport
Lleida Airport, also known as Lleida-Alguaire Airport, is located at 15 kilometers from Lleida. It is sitting in a key point of the north-east region of Spain where a network of infrastructures that connect the airport with important tourist and industrial centers converge. The high-speed train significantly reduces travel time between Lleida and Barcelona, Zaragoza and Madrid. The airport was inaugurated on 17 January 2010, and today handles around 30 000 passengers annually.
The roads and motorways also link the airport to certain important centers of the region of Catalonia. It is a very good starting point for tourists who want to visit Lleida and discover Andorra and its ski resorts or for those who are interested in discovering the Catalan coast. It is also a good base to visit attractive areas such as the National Park Aiguestortes. It is an airport to the liking of both tourists and locals, since it is very well located for easy travel to destinations such as Aragon, Languedoc-Roussillon and of course the Catalan Pyrenees.
Airport Terminals and Airlines
The Lleida Airport is pretty small and has a single modern and fully functional terminal, sufficient to serve all of the passengers’ needs. There are only a handful of airlines operating at this airport, offering both regular and seasonal flights to several destinations. They include: Air Nostrum, Iberia Regional, Neilson, Jet2.com, and a few others. Having in mind the limited capacity of this airport, these airlines are sufficient to cater for the current demand.
Airport Services and Facilities
Over the last few years Catalonia has continuously improved its tourism infrastructure to allow its travelers easy access from one part of the region to another in minimum time. This airport is pretty practical, especially if you are looking to reach the ski slopes in less time than when travelling from Barcelona or Girona.
As mentioned previously, this airport has a very limited passenger capacity, so having this in mind, it also has a pretty limited services and facilities capacity, however sufficient in terms of frequency.
If you are hungry or thirsty before your flight, do note that there are two restaurants in the Departures area. And if you are after some last minute shopping, there is a store selling souvenirs, newspapers and magazines, tobacco. For cash, an ATM is available at one location at this airport. The airport has Wi-Fi access free of charge, perfect if you have some time to kill.
If you are traveling with your kids and you want to make sure that they’ll burn off their energy, there’s a children's playground at the airport. And if you are looking to spend the night, do note that there are accommodations located near the airport grounds. The airport’s hours of operation are between 07.00 and 18.30 in summer and between 08.00 and 16.30 in winter.
For any type of information, head to the info desk and for enquiries about missing luggage, head for the counter of the appropriate airline. Passengers with reduced mobility requiring special assistance should contact their airline or travel agency prior to their arrival. Once at the enclosure, they should head for the airport's information desk.
Ground Transportation
The bus service ATM introduced a Lleida-Lleida Alguaire airport bus line. The buses run 4 times on Friday and 4 times on Saturday (to and from the airport). The buses depart from the airport at 18:30 and 21:25, and stop at Renfe railway station before getting to the bus station. The journey to the bus station takes approx. 40 minutes and the price of a single ticket is 2.45€
If you are traveling from / to Barcelona, you can catch a train. The route from Barcelona to Lleida and the return can be made in just 1 hour with the high-speed AVE. The regional trains are much slower and generally take over three hours to get to the destination.
