Trapani Airport (TPS)

Trapani Airport

Vincenzo Florio Airport Trapani–Birgi (or Aeroporto Vincenzo Florio di Trapani-Birgi), also known simply as Trapani Airport, is a military and public airport serving Trapani, in Sicily, Italy. Located between Trapani and Marsala, it is one of the five civil airports in Sicily, but is also used for military purposes. In 2015, around 1.5 million passengers passed through the airport, making it the third-busiest airport in Sicily. The civil airport is named after the famous automobile enthusiast and wine industrialist born in Sicily, Vincenzo Florio Sr.

Airport Terminals and Airlines

Trapani Airport is the third busiest airport in Sicily after Catania and Palermo. The airport has one terminal. The departure area, initially on the ground floor, has been moved to the first floor; the boarding gates, from three are now increased to eight, of which five are for domestic flights and three for international flights. Alitalia, Blue Air, Mistral Air, AliBlue Malta and Ryanair airlines all serve Trapani Airport, offering multiple destinations.

Airport Services and Facilities

This small, modern single-terminal international airport is equipped with the basic necessities any passenger may need. The ‘Vincenzo Florio’ Airport offers several Food & Beverage and retail areas. Passengers and airport crews can enjoy a wide area located in the Departures area (first floor), dedicated to food and retail services. Particular attention is given to the sale of typical food and non-food products, for which the Trapani territory is renowned throughout the world. The commercial offer includes also other areas on the ground floor, with seating areas and ancillary services, such as newsstand, tobacco shop and vending machines.

The airport doesn't have many shops, restaurants or (snack) bars, but the ones that are available offer snacks and drinks that can be taken on the go. Food choices are limited to Gran Cafe in the check-in/arrivals area and Briciole is available Airside. Vending machines are also available.

The following are located on the ground floor: check-in desks, waiting lounges, luggage conveyors, and access gates to the sterile area for airport operators and PRM passengers. There are also a cafeteria and hospitality services, a lounge for disabled passengers, car rental offices, the airport services desk, first aid rooms and an ATM for cash withdrawals and other transactions. The Departures area, located on the first floor, has a VIP lounge, boarding gates for domestic and international flights and an area of almost 800 square meters for food and shops.

There is a lost items desk within the terminal as well, along with an information desk. Unfortunately, the airport does not have any business facilities. Trapani Airport is fully equipped to accommodate the needs of the travelers with reduced mobility. There are 12 free parking spaces for people with reduced mobility and you can ask for assistance at the general information desk. There are two parking areas for short term and long term parking, with a total of 563 parking spaces. Free WiFi is available at Trapani Airport for 90 minutes. There is a First Aid Station located landside for any occurring emergency.

Overnight stays are not permitted at this airport, but you are permitted to sleep outside of the terminal on airport property. If weather permits, have a sleeping bag handy, and you may be able to catch a few hours of night sleep. The airport hours are 4:30 AM – 12:30 AM, so have this in mind when scheduling your flights. For uninterrupted sleep though, there are hotels near the airport.

Ground Transportation

Trapani Airport is situated midway between the train stations of Trapani and Marsala (Trenitalia). The airport can be reached by bus from Trapani Station, via regularly scheduled lines. Various scheduled buses and shuttles travel from Trapani port and the city to the airport. At the airport, there are also bus connections to Palermo. There is a bus stop just in front of the terminal.

In addition to this public transportation option (or perhaps paying for a taxi service), you can also book a reliable door-to-door private transportation with UpTransfers, carried out with a modern fleet of fully licensed and insured vehicles, and be welcomed at the airport by an English-speaking driver - an excellent choice for traveling with style.
