Barcelona Airport

Barcelona–El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport, previously named Barcelona-El Prat and also known as El Prat Airport, is an international airport located at 12 km southwest of the center of Barcelona, lying in the municipalities of El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans, and Sant Boi, in Catalonia, Spain. It is named after the historical President of the Generalitat of Catalonia Josep Tarradellas since February 27th, 2019. It is the second largest and busiest airport in Spain, and the seventh busiest in Europe. In 2018, Barcelona Airport handled a record 50.2 million passengers. It is a hub for Level and Vueling, and a focus city for Air Europa, Iberia, easyJet, Norwegian and Ryanair.

Airport Terminals and Airlines

This airport has two large terminals, T1 and T2. Terminal 1 (the newer one) handles both Schengen and non-Schengen flights, and it is split into 5 Modules (A-E) with 258 check-in counters. Terminal 2 is divided into three linked sections, known as Terminal 2A, 2B and 2C and is mostly occupied by low-cost airlines.

A huge number of airlines, including low-cost carriers, service this airport, offering both regular and seasonal flights, internationally and domestically. Some of the airlines at this amazingly busy airport are: Aegean Airlines, Aeroflot, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Air Algerie, Air Arabia, Air Baltic, Air Canada, Air China, Air France, Alitalia, American Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Azur Air, Blue Air, Brussels Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Croatia Airlines, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, EasyJet, EgyptAir, Emirates, Etihad Airlines, Eurowings, Iberia, Jet2, Korean Air, LATAM, Lufthansa, Pegasus Airlines,
Qatar Airways, Ryanair, SmartWings, S7 Airlines, TAP Portugal, TUIFly, Tunisair, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Vueling, Wizz Air, WOW Air and many more

Airport Services and Facilities

This airport has a Duty Free at multiple locations, offering a great number of items you can purchase. It also has a variety of other shops, including fashion, jewelry, watches, kids clothing, sportswear, bags, cosmetics, sunglasses, gifts and souvenirs, as well as local produce. If you are hungry, the Barcelona Airport has many bars, bistros, restaurants and snack spots where you can enjoy a hot plate, grab a beer, or get a coffee and a sandwich or a pastry. Both terminals are pretty large and have a plethora of things you can do to pass your time. Both terminals have pharmacies and first aid stations.

Barcelona El Prat is fairly popular with airport sleepers, however, it is not especially comfortable or convenient. The airport itself doesn’t have much in the way of frills or comforts. Most of the chairs have armrests, and the floors are tiled and cold. In terms of where specifically to sleep, Terminal 1 on the upper level is generally quieter with less overhead lights, and Gate U in Terminal 2 has armrest-free chairs and a 24-hour restaurant. However, it can be difficult to secure one of the better spots. If you’re looking for uninterrupted sleep, there are private rooms in Terminal 1, and other hotels nearby.

During Barcelona’s high season, the check-in and security lines can be very slow, sometimes 3 – 4 hours). There are 12 mobile phone charging units distributed throughout the two terminals and free Wi-Fi is available. Multiple ATMs and currency exchange offices are also at your disposal.

Ground Transportation

Terminal 2 has its own Rodalies Barcelona commuter train station on the line R2, which runs from the Maçanet-Massanes station every 30 minutes, with major stops. Passengers for T1 must take a connecting bus from Terminal 2B to Terminal 1. This airport is also linked to Barcelona by line 9 of the Barcelona Metro with a station in each terminal.

The Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) public bus line 46 runs from Parallel Avenue. The Aerobús offers direct transfers from T1 and T2 to the city center at Plaça Catalunya. Another company offers transfers from Barcelona Airport to nearest airports like Reus Airport or Girona–Costa Brava, provincial and national capitals and links with France or Andorra.

In addition to the public transportation options (or perhaps paying for a taxi service), you can also book a reliable door-to-door private transportation with UpTransfers, carried out with a modern fleet of fully licensed and insured vehicles, and be welcomed at the airport by an English-speaking driver - an excellent choice for traveling with style. Barcelona-El Prat Airport (IATA: BCN) is 12 km (7,5 mi) from Barcelona, Spain. The airport is simply called Barcelona airport. The airport is located in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat, hence the name Barcelona-El Prat Airport. The airport is the second largest in Spain and the 31st busiest in the World. In 2013 more than 35 million passengers used Barcelona Airport.

transfers2airports.com is a great choice to travel with a low cost airport taxi or shuttle transfer between Barcelona Airport and any parts of Spain.

PLEASE NOTE:
- upon arrival at Barcelona Airport please look for your driver, who will hold a personal waiting sign with your name on it
- if you did not pay in advance for your airport taxi transfer, please pay to the driver with the local currency (Euro)
