Zaragoza Airport (ZAZ)

Zaragoza Airport

Zaragoza Airport (Aeropuerto de Zaragoza) is an international airport near Zaragoza, Spain. It is located 16 km west of Zaragoza, 270 km west of Barcelona, and 262 km northeast of Madrid. In addition to serving as a commercial airport, Zaragoza is the home of the Spanish Air Force 15th Group. Because of its central location, with over 20 million people within a radius of 300 km, it is an important freight distribution center.

Airport Terminals and Airlines

This regional airport has one single terminal. It has a futuristic design giving the illusion of waves and skylights and creating a huge amount of light in the passenger areas. The Zaragoza Airport is served by a few airlines, catering for multiple destinations. The main airlines at the airport are Air Europa, Ryanair, Volotea, Wizz Air and Vueling.

Airport Services and Facilities

You will access to the passenger terminal from the apron – both for national and international conveyor belts and for baggage reclaim. From this room there is access to the arrivals hall. From the departures hall however, you can check in your luggage at one of the 14 check-in desks in the departures hall. There is a multi-shop and cafeteria on the top floor and the boarding lounge for international flights is reached via the security checkpoint and passport control. Flights are boarded through three gates, which leave the passengers on the apron to access the aircraft.

Shopping at Zaragoza Airport is rather limited, but there are two Quint Multi-shops located in the departure lobby and public space selling newspapers, magazines and books, as well as local products and gifts. There are self-service airport cafeterias in the public area and passenger zone of the terminal building offering a good range of snacks and drinks. Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available at Zaragoza Airport, to help you pass the time while waiting for your flight. ATMs are also available here in case you need cash. Basically, this airport is fairly small and there’s not much to do or buy here, so if you are a serious shopper, it might be a better idea to arrive fully stocked.

The outside regions of the airport have been landscaped to preserve the propensity of green circumscribing the terminal. The terminal building, which was built on the west side of the existing building covers a total floor area of 11,000m², enough to host one million passengers a year.

The airport is open from 6:00 AM – 11:30 PM (daily). It is not possible to sleep overnight in the terminal. There are hotels near the airport where you can book a room for a good rest. And if you happen to arrive and depart during the same day, you can plan for a day visit of Zaragoza and enjoy the place. The local food, wine and climate is absolutely terrific so instead of staying at the airport, which is fairly small, you may experience the local spirit.

For the travelers with reduced mobility, it is important to request the support service on the airport website at least 48 hours in advance. In addition, such assistance should also be requested from the airline.

Ground Transportation

Currently, the airport is connected to the city center by a bus line (501), which goes from the Puerta del Carmen square, downtown, to the airport, also stopping at the city’s main railway station: Zaragoza-Delicias. The station is an important hub for long-distance trains, AVE high-speed trains and the commuter line of Cercanías Zaragoza, which takes passengers underground through the city and over-ground in the metropolitan area.

In addition to this public transportation option (or perhaps paying for a taxi service which is not the best option), you can also book a reliable door-to-door private transportation with UpTransfers, carried out with a modern fleet of fully licensed and insured vehicles, and be welcomed at the airport by an English-speaking driver - an excellent choice for traveling with style. Even if you are not planning to stay at Zaragoza, you can book for a day transfer and enjoy a tourist visit. The driver will drop you off and pick you up as instructed, and you will be able to enjoy your layover as much as possible.
