Dilbeek is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium. This administrative unit comprises the villages of Dilbeek itself, Groot-Bijgaarden, Itterbeek (with Sint-Anna-Pede), Schepdaal(with Sint-Gertrudis-Pede), Sint-Martens-Bodegem, and Sint-Ulriks-Kapelle.

The location of Dilbeek is next to the Brussels-Capital Region, in the Payottenland, hence it is mentioned as Poort van het Pajottenland (Gate to the Payottenland) by the native inhabitants. The official language of the administrative unit of Dilbeek is Dutch, but there is a significant French-speaking minority, that is represented by 4 members on the 33-seat local council. Attractions

The castle of Groot-Bijgaarden – built in 1640 around a 14th-century keep – is marvellous. Near the castle is the Sint-Wivina domain, where ruins of the original abbey can be seen.

De Viron Castle: it houses the local authority offices of Dilbeek. The castle was erected in 1863 in Tudor-style on the ruins of a 14th-century fortification.

Dilbeek Castle

Sint-Alenatoren: this is one of the medieval towers preserved for our time in the park entwining the building proper. A couple of other worth-seeing buildings can also be found in the park

The rural communes have numerous old farms, including Het Neerhof, a 13th-century building that belonged to the abbey of Forest.

The tower of the Sint-Ambrosiuskerk (church of Saint-Ambrose) was built in the 13th century as well.

The main church of Sint-Anna-Pede (Itterbeek) was the model used by Peter Brueghel the Elder in his 1568 painting The Parable of the Blind, which exhibited nowadays in Naples. This village has a Brueghel museum; a restored watermill built in 1776 is also worth being seen.

Dilbeek tram museum: this museum goes back to the beginning of this type of transportation in this area, which actually started in 1887.

The village of Sint-Gertrudis-Pede (Schepdaal): a still working watermill can be seen here, that is the only one in the Payottenland's.
