Leffe Abbey
The original Church of Leffe was put into possession of Premonstratensian Order of Floreffe in 1152. The grantor was Henry the Blind, Earl of Namur. It soon became a monastery that got the privileges of an abbey in 1200. This Catholic sanctuary went through a series of catastrophes over the centuries, reconstructed in the 17th and 18th centuries, and raided by French revolutionaries in 1794. The current buildings were sold in 1816 and reconstructed into workshops. In 1903 the French Premonstratensian Order re-purchased and restored the edifices.
